Interview with Andrew Brown, Youth Pastor at Davis Christian Assembly. Andrew is working on getting his credentials as a full time minister while working full time. He is a witness to co-workers and friends outside the church. He as been leading the youth ministry at DCA faithfully for a few years now with his wife Jami.

Andrew is a father of a 4 year old girl named Natalya and twin 2 year old girls Victoria and Julianna. Being a father has changed his life and perspective. He has really noticed how people change after becoming parents, especially in fatherhood, including his co-workers. Pastor Jonathan and Andrew discuss this transformation and how much more we mean to our Heavenly Father who loves us so much He gave His Son for us.

Jesus’ first miracle was done in the womb in Luke 1. When Mary visited Elizabeth in her first 3 months, probably not showing, Elizabeth speaks out in prophesy calling the child in Mary her Lord and that she is blessed among women. Jesus knew who He was from birth. Fully God and fully human.

Jesus references His father in Luke 2:41-50 when He is found in the Temple teaching those around Him. Jesus says he is in His father’s “business” or inside His will and understanding.

This world cannot function correctly without a father, without fatherly love. Fatherly love needs to be restored in this world. Much of the gaps in people’s lives is from absent fathers or fathers who didn’t show love. Human trafficking is a direct result of men who have not taken care of their families, and women and children are helpless to defend themselves against people who want to take advantage of them.

Pastor Jonathan speaks briefly of his own father who has passed away. His father was an amazing Dad who showed him the basis of acceptance and foundation of love. He was there, solid and peaceful. He was also his best friend. He is missed a lot here on earth.

Closing Prayer: Prayer for those who need a father, those who want to be better fathers, and those who need Heavenly Father to be a father to them.

Scripture:

Jesus said before He was crucified in John 12:44-50
⁴⁴ Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. ⁴⁵ And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. ⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. ⁴⁷ And if anyone hears My words and does not believe,^[i] I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. ⁴⁸ He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. ⁴⁹ For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that His command is everlasting life. Jesus came as a light, not to judge but to save the world.

Jesus promises the “Paraklytos”, the Advocate, the Lawyer – The one who knows the law to stand in our place in John 14:15 – 21

¹⁵ “If you love Me, keep^[d] My commandments. ¹⁶ And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— ¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. ¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. ¹⁹ “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. ²⁰ At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. ²¹ He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

John 15:26-27

Jesus said it was to our advantage for Him to go, so that He can send the Advocate. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. He pours His Spirit on ALL flesh. 

John 16:1-15
¹ “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. ² They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. ³ And these things they will do to you^[a] because they have not known the Father nor Me. ⁴ But these things I have told you, that when the^[b] time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.“And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. ⁵ “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ ⁶ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷ Nevertheless I tell you the truth. Greeting: The closer to true love you come, the closer to you come to God. The closer you come to God, the closer you come to true love.

Voice of God speaks to all humans. Believers may pay more attention to God’s voice but God speaks to all humankind and it is up to us to listen to His voice.

Scripture: John 16 Jesus speaks of the advantage for Him to go away so that the Holy Spirit will come to convict the world, not condemn it. Conviction is calling to come to God.

Every human being knows that there is a debt or an account giving about this life. Even without an ideal in this world, no one can get away from the fact that the Holy Spirit convicts us of our unrighteousness.

The Holy Spirit helps and guides us to understand God’s truth. The Holy Spirit takes what is God’s and declares it to us. The fullness of the Godhead is given to everyone at all times throughout the earth. As God’s Spirit speaks to all, they have a witness to God’s voice.

Jesus is tempted by the Devil. When tempted to make bread of the rocks, Jesus responds that “man” (humankind) does not live by bread alone, but every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8). The Spirit speaks those words from God to all humanity. The principle is universal and true that we don’t only live by food, but also by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

He speaks to you today of His grace and His mercy. Jesus says in John 16, that when the Spirit of God has come that He will speak all truth. He will glorify Jesus. John 16:15 all things a that the Father has are Jesus’ and the Holy Spirit has it.

Conclusion: If you want to receive something from God you must learn to hear what He is saying by allowing the Holy Spirit to come in and change things in us and making things new. Replace anxiety by praying and having a relationship with the Lord with thanksgiving and trust. The peace of God will guard your hearts.

Conclusion: Pastor Jonathan encourages to keep the breast plate on and stay rooted in Jesus, for these are just Labor Pains which come and go, only to point to His final coming.

John 15 has been interpreted as “I am the vine, you are the branches…” but Pastor Jonathan suggests that this has been translated incorrectly and should read, “I am the vineyard, you are the vines…”

He then continues to talk about abiding in Him.

Thought of the day: Every human has the need be intimately known. To know and be known. The antidote to being alone is being known intimately by someone else in safety, mercy and trust at the core of the foundation of a true friendship.

Jesus restores His relationship with Peter. We have neglected the importance of God’s love. God IS love!

We must abide in Him as mentioned in John 15. Pastor Jonathan explains the passage with a different perspective. Jesus passes by a vineyard and says “I am the VINEYARD” not vine, you must abide in the soil. 1. Pastor believes there might be some truth to that, due to cycles of the earth and the influence that may have on us.

2. Let’s support all politicians who are Pro-Life whether or not they weren’t before. We need to offer support to those pregnant & in crisis.

3. Global warming caused by man is just propagating fear and panic. We cannot control the weather! This argument is just to try to justify the false notion that the earth cannot support more humanity and feeding the lie that it’s okay to eliminate people for a better and greater cause. Paying more taxes or trying to limit global emissions will NOT solve the problem.

We need to manage our environment but mostly to pray to God who is in control of everything.

Conditional Love: Gospel of John

Jesus restores Peter’s betrayal. In Greek, the words for love are different.

1. Agapas me? (Godly love)

2. Filos me? (Friend)

3. Are you my friend?

Each has a different response as Jesus restores Peter. Pastor Jonathan explains the differences.

Conclusion: Are you a friend of Jesus? He wants to restore you and His relationship with you.

Pastor Jonathan expressed his love for Springtime, despite his allergies.

Jennifer from Sacramento makes the point that there is room on this earth for more to be born, including cows, polar bears and human babies.

Pastor Jonathan comments that environmentalism is an attack on human beings, including abortions.

Closing Thoughts:

Reflecting on Easter. Jesus was a substitution for us on the cross while He took on ALL of the sins of humanity upon Himself in our place. This is unconditional love. There are some conditions on how we love God, and Pastor Jonathan will be explaining this through the John 21 passage, of Jesus and Peter’s exchange about love and “feeding His sheep”. More about the details in this conversation and what they mean, next week. Stay tuned and find out what Jesus’ meant in this very important exchange with Peter.

Comments:

1. Pastor Jonathan believes that man should not be accused of terrorism, but of premeditated murder. The abortionists are committing genocide.

2. How can we be arrogant enough to believe that we control the weather?

3. & 4.  In 2008 people believed drilling for oil was bad, but now it’s okay to drive SUVs again. Shame on our officials who use legislation to further their agendas. The majority needs to be voted out.

5. How come when people need help they call out to Christians? If we allow a Muslim world view, who will call out for injustice? If Islam is so peaceful and the executions in Saudi Arabia are injustice, where are the Muslim officials crying out for the injustice? Do we want to draw near to this kind of world view, or even Buddhism or Hinduism who are even harsher on minorities?

Weather Report: J.D. Maher gives us good weather for the rest of the week and highs of 105 degrees on Sunday… He is a man and after all, control the weather! Reminding Pastor and viewers of today’s date… he continues to give us the real weather report consisting of rain, cloudy skies, and more rain.

Closing Thoughts: Pastor Jonathan reminds us of the first “Passover” when the angel of death would passover the homes with the blood markings from the lambs sacrificed in obedience to God. Jesus became that unblemished lamb who bled and gave up His life to the Father during this very ritual, becoming the last Lamb who was slain to take on Him our sins, defeat death, and give us life.

Jesus said on the cross “It is accomplished” as He gave up His life to free us from sin and death.

Intro – Here to serve you. Pastor Jonathan reintroduces himself and his intentions on this show. He is here to serve you with Jesus’ truth, love and humor in hopes that you will smile and become “radio friends”.

Pastor Jonathan comments on the recent healthcare  bill and interested in people’s impressions of the whole process. America is different than other countries because of it’s unique base in Christ, but we have lost our way and our hope in God. He pleads with believers to stop panicking and start praying. We keep looking at people to fix us, but God is not here to fix us mechanically, but to have relationship. We have faith, hope and love. Both faith and hope will be gone once we are with God, but love will continue on forever.

Remember, God is near!

Radio Theatre – Pastor Jonathan hopes to make you smile and a radio friend. Introduces a section called… “Radio Theatre” where we pretend that this show has a multimillion dollar fund… connection to J.D. Maher, our own Weather Man with a van in a “remote location” with a crowd of young people listening. Weekly forecast and then an interview with the “crowd” (a group of 10 year old kids doing their homework).

This Sunday is Palm Sunday. Pastor explains how Jesus enters Jerusalem with a triumphant, but humble entry. People were expecting a revolutionary leader, but He had plans to save us from sin for eternity, not for the governments of this world. He was a leader who could feed, heal and control the elements… what better leader to have?! He could lead the Jews into war against their enemies and win! However, they didn’t realize that He was fighting a spiritual war for us. He knew He was going to die and rise again in a week from His entry into that city. Pastor paints the picture of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey and what that might have looked like. He fulfilled prophesy but came humbly.

Closing Thoughts – Jesus IS a triumphant leader. He IS the one who loved you to death and He loved you to LIFE! Don’t assume who He is, but get to know Him yourself.

Pastor Jonathan begins by clearing the air that the two announcers for the show is just a joke… both are J.D. Maher who is just impersonating Chuck Ohman.

On a serious note: Pastor Jonathan calls us to pray for our President as he has canceled his trip to Indonesia, a country that is predominately Muslim. Pastor calls us to pray for our Congressmen, Senators and all who are in authority.

Recent changes in this “mystery legislation” this Sunday have caused fear and instability, Pastor Jonathan comments that it is not wise to play “Russian Roulette” with our legislation.  Best thing we can do is pray for wisdom in our leaders.

The story of St. Patrick who ministered a few hundred years after the last apostles of the first century church. He was a missionary who was captured and enslaved in Ireland. A country that was dominated by the Druids, a people who focused their worship on nature and not the Creator.  St. Patrick met two princesses whom he ministered to by telling them the Good News of salvation through Christ and the truth of the Creator and not the worship of creation.

Pastor Jonathan read the Prayer on St. Patrick’s breastplate. He was very aware of the spiritual warfare he faced. If you would like to read the prayer in its entirety, click here.

Pastor Jonathan reminds us to trust in God to and to pray! This is a season of prayer not panic. Do not be afraid, but put your hope in God! Doesn’t matter what happens around us, we are the children of God and He will answer prayer. If you don’t know God, call on His name and He will answer. There IS hope in Christ!

Dr. Philemon explains the importance of understanding even a little bit of Biblical Greek and how it can change how you study the Bible. Jesus ministered in Greek as we know that the Synagogues of the time used the Septuagint that was the Hebrew Torah translated into Greek. The world was Hellenized (or Hellenic – Greek) and most likely Jesus spoke at least two languages to communicate.Understanding that many words were translated from Greek into English lost their meaning in translation. In closing, Pastor Jonathan reminds us to pray for our troops and generals who are fighting our very real enemies as we have now found that Iran is cooperation with Al-Qaeda. Pray for the safety of our country and the conversion of these radical groups to relationship with Christ our Lord!

Pastor has his son Aaron (18 yrs) freshman at Bethany University in Scotts Valley, CA and daughter Julianna (14 yrs) high school student on the show with him today and poses the question: “Is There Any Hope For Young People?”

Today’s educational system is based on Darwinism and Aryanism which basically states that some people are superior to others who are “still developing”. However, the founding fathers of this country said that rights came from God and created with an equal value.

Jonathan – Do you think there is a value for rights coming from God?

Aaron – Of course! This nation is built on the idea that all humans are on the same level and one man is not over an other. Coming from a monarchy, the people started to realize that the king was just as human as anyone else and that human given value is flawed.

Jonathan – Our ethics as a nation are rooted on a Christ ethic and the teachings of Christ. All humanity is valued. Paul said at Mars hill, “All men are of the same blood”. This is the basis of our country’s constitution and being that we are the Great Experiment we should lead by example and lead in the world.

Aaron – Things get in the way, many are buying into the depression, but Jesus said not to worry about the things of this world, for it is corrupted.

Jonathan introduces his daughter Julianna to the discussion. Julianna just placed 2nd in the Jammies Competition last week at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento. She followed a death metal band who seemed so sad and depressed, but with her music “31st Floor” and “How Lucky We Are” she brought some light and hope.

Jonathan – Do you think people your age are looking for hope?

Julianna – Yes! Young people not knowing what they will do with their lives, look forward to the future with hope for their dreams to come true.

Jonathan – We have traveled as a family to many parts of the world, do you see a difference with this country and others?

Julianna – We have freedom to say what we want, write music, make a career from it even! We take it for granted many times what amazing opportunities we have.

Pastor Jonathan reminds us that the Gospel is that God is near. You don’t have to feel hopeless or that you are on your own. God is near! He thanked the kids and then reminded us that even through tragedies such as the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile happen not to forget that God is near. Many people may say that it is the end of the world, but and that there is not hope, but the Lord’s coming should be good news – have hope!

Pastor speaks about hope, trust, faith being a means to an end. Everybody exercises hope, faith, trust and beliefs in things. It matters who you put your hope in.  Who else to put your hope in but God?

Phone-a-Friend Segment, Pastor Jonathan “calls” his late father, Demetrios “Jimmy” Zachariou who was a personification of hope to Jonathan. Thanking him for being such a great example of a man who hoped in God. He remembers that his dad used to sing a song in Greek about hope. “Hope Always In Him”.

Judy in Citrus Heights who is excited to hear Pastor Jonathan on her drive home from where she volunteers, making her 30 minute commute go faster. Knowing Pastor Jonathan, she knows the show will be good and thinks she might just get addicted to it.

Sandra in Sacramento who is a teacher on her way home from work. Pastor makes the point that teachers are trusted on and undervalued many times. He reminders her that teachers need to give hope to the young people they teach. Today is “Stand up for schools” day.

Chris in Sacramento is glad to hear Pastor’s optimism and positive energy, but is seeing a decline in our State’s morale and economy. He asks Pastor, “What will we do to get this State (California) back on it’s feet?” Pastor says three main things:
1. Vote.
2. Pray and call on God. We need to be depended on someone greater than us.
3. Be dependable. Be a hard, diligent worker and let others depend on you rather than have the “give me what’s yours, I’ll keep what’s mine” mentality.

Comments on Greece’s current economic crisis. Germany recently suggested that Greece sell off some of its islands to come out of bankruptcy. He prays that we as a State don’t get to that point and as individuals, may we not be is such despair that we lose everything. The New York Times article here.

Trust is the same way. You put your trust on someone (the road side service driver who will come to help you when you call, a complete stranger by the way unless you live in a very small town and know the guy) or something (the chair you sit on at your table every day) without double checking if the chair can hold you or if the tow truck has an engine under the hood so that when the driver turns the key the truck starts up to come and help you!

Really, have you ever stopped to think how much faith, belief, hope and trust your life runs on every day! All these “vehicles” are in each of us and are a part of our very nature. No baby doubts that it will be cared for. It does not ask any questions about the motives of it’s caretaker or their willingness to care for them. All babies trust. And children can quickly be taught through experiences that reinforce that trust or that challenge it through neglect and abuse. It takes a lot to cut-off the willingness for a child to hope or trust or believe. But even when the willingness wanes, all of these vehicles remain in the human identity, the soul, and hope to be realized, to be tapped into and used again.

I have seen children and grown-ups that have been taught not to trust anymore by their environment, their experiences and their fears. They lock hope away and go into subsistence. You might be one of these. Maybe what you need to do is not put hope away or never trust again but to inventory who you trust and upon whom you place your hope and faith. Who is the target of your trust? Upon whom do you hope? I submit to you that what we all need is an absolutely stable base to build a life of trust and hope and belief on. A strong base or foundation is key if we are going to be secure in exercising these “vehicles” toward other people. Who is the most stable entity in the Universe? You can think about this question all you want. Many have and have concluded many things. Here is what I have concluded. The Creator of me is more trust-worthy than even my very loving mother and father. He is more hope-worthy than any plan I have to get ahead, is more faith-worthy and belief-worthy than any person or system or philosophy in this life.

Put your trust in God first and see how the love He shows you and gives you (because He loves you aaaaalllooooootttttt!) will restore a confidence in you like that of a newborn baby, reestablish a child like faith and will push away life’s fears because you know who you believe in, who you trust and hope in and how able He is to be ever so good without fail.  I think it was 1956 when the phrase “In God We Trust” was put on our currency.  It is also our national motto!  If we do that individually and as a nation collectively, we can only be headed toward good things because He is the best Father by far! And we will also live with the confidence and security that a beloved child enjoys.

You have faith, trust, belief and hope inside your being (tell you something you don’t know). The question for you is, whom are you targeting with these? Where are these vehicles headed? If it is toward anything or anyone but God first you will be injured and disappointed. But, if we go to God with these first as a relational foundation with Him, our capacity to trust, believe in and hope for the best in others and for others will be more powerful than ever before. And when (not if) we are injured by people or circumstances we won’t stop believing, trusting, having faith or hoping because these are all secure in God first.

God knows this about you and me and is the best person to trust ourselves to  when it comes fulfillment. Every person’s ultimate destiny is to be reconciled and live with our creator. He is the ultimate and most fulfilling destination. The place where we end up and are completely and totally fulfilled.

For our lives to have meaning, for us to contribute and be valued we have to first be willing to offer the little we think we are or have to God. Once we do He will show us who we truly are and what we really have. We are like a tree seed, if we plant ourselves in His loving soil and God affects a transformation and reveals all the potential that was locked in the seed. The seed of a tree cannot provide shade or fruit or oxygen or beauty when it is still a seed. All the potential is there, but it needs to “invest” itself fully in fertile and in this case, loving soil. There is no better soil than Jesus for you to plant your life. Once you die in Him, give up your seed nature for your intended purpose, His love in you will thrive you and all you have, into something beautiful that will last forever. Offer your “nothing” to God and see what an incredible “something” that “nothing” is. We don’t bring to God things that He needs, we offer things to God that He transforms.
