About the Host

The “Hope that Helps” radio show is hosted by Jonathan Zachariou.  He was born in San Francisco California in 1963 to Demetrios “Jimmy” and Yanna Zachariou.  His parents immigrated to the United States from the country of Greece when they were invited to come and pastor the Greek Assembly of God church in Oakland, California.  Five years after coming to the United States, his family returned to Greece to help churches and ministries in their native land.  Jonathan did most of the rest of his growing up in Greece along with his brother Chris and his sister Bettina.

Educated in Greek schools through the fourth grade and transitioning to English speaking schools, he is fully bilingual in Greek and English.  He graduated from TASIS Hellenic International School and returned to the United States to study at Bethany Bible College, now Bethany University, in Scotts Valley, California.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Church Leadership and a Minor in Missiology and Cross Cultural Studies.

He graduated Bethany in 1985 and returned to serve in Greece for almost five years.  He was Ordained as an Assemblies of God minister in 1989.  In 1990 he married Jennifer Cox and have had three children together, Aaron, Rebekah and Julianna.  In September of 1991 he became the pastor of Davis Christian Assembly where he has served ever since.

In addition to the many years he spent serving in Greece, he has traveled extensively throughout the world and has served people in many countries including France, Spain, Portugal, England, the Republic of Ireland, Holland, Belgium, Germany and Yugoslavia (before the fall of communism), Kosovo after the war, Brazil and Mexico.

He has also worked with many people groups including Fijian, Chinese, Latin American, Iranian, Armenian, Ukrainian, Russian, U.S. Service men and women, and Deaf church groups and fellowships.  He loves to worship God, lead worship services and speak to young and not so young audiences, bringing encouraging, humor filled truth from scripture.

Jonathan has an interest in history, follows world events and politics, reveres these United States, has a deep affection for Greece and Europe, enjoys travel, movies, many kinds of music, loves family and friend get-togethers, making children laugh, laughing, playing, being inspired by God’s creation, better knowing Jesus and the written word of God and meeting and getting to know people and showing them that they are loved by God.  Jonathan has been a guest on radio and television shows in the past but “Hope that Helps” is his first live radio show experience as host.
